Austin’s Story

Hi Everyone,

Some of you know that we are going to China this summer. We have been given this amazing opportunity to take Austin to China to get stem cells. It has been a dream of mine for a long time. I did not think we would ever be given this opportunity but thank God we are! I did a lot of praying and asked God for much guidance on this and I feel like this is something we are supposed to do. I just pray that we made the right decision.  Austin and I will be leaving June 10 on Darrin’s b-day.  We will fly from St. Louis to LAX and then into Korean and then Qingdao, China. It will be a very long trip. We were hoping to take the girls but that part did not work out. The girls will stay here with Darrin and many of our family members.  We could not do this without our families. I am so sad about leaving the girls. I have never left them for very long. This will be the hardest part in all of this.  Please pray that Abby and Amber have a great time and are good while I am gone. This will be hard for them.

Thanks for all of your support and prayers – they mean so much. Please keep Austin extra in your prayers this summer. We are praying for good improvements for him. We are hoping we might get some relief from his seizures and gain some strength in his body. A great miracle would be if he could be able to understand some of what his eyes see. We would be so thrilled if he could look at us and smile in response to our smiles.  We will of course take any improvements for him that we can get.

Austin and I will be gone June 10 – July 13. We hope you have a fabulous summer!!

Hello,

I would like to thank all the people who helped make Austin’s fundraiser a success!  It means so much to us that people care.  It gives me the boost I need to continue on in helping Austin be the best he can be.  I want to thank our local Elks Lodge #594!  Thank you for your love, support and care of Austin.  You guys made this all possible.  A special thanks to Brandy Murray, David, and Woody Woodson and all Elks members.  You are amazing people!  Someday when Austin is older and by God’s grace doing even better, I will give back.  My dream is to someday have a Brain Injury Foundation to help local indiduals get therapies and help they need.  The sooner a brain injured person gets help, the better – especially with Hyberbarics.  I have read that in Germany, after someone has a stroke or brain injury they get them in the Hyberbarics and help save more brain cells from dying.

Austin is doing well and making slow progress.  He has been holding his bottle better than ever and is becoming an increasingly happy little guy.  Thank God for that.  It was a nightmare when he screamed all the time.  He has come so far from where he was!  Thank you for being his angels!  When people join together great things happen!  I have learned so much from Austin and it is my prayer that you do to!!  God Bless you all!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that Austin was on KOMU TV Channel 8 last night. He was on the medical report with Angie Bailey. If you missed it please check out www.komu.com and go to the link Vitamin K vital for babies. It also has a link to his 2005 news story and some info about him by his therapist Gerti. She has been working with him since he was about 4 months old.

He is also supposed to be mentioned everyday on the Paul Pepper Show this week!

I also wanted to remind you about his fundraiser this next Saturday. We really hope you all can come and have a wonderful time! It should be a grand time for all! The Elks have done so much work to make it great! Thanks for being Austin’s Angels and we hope to see you this coming Sat.!

Austin Wade was born a perfectly healthy baby boy on September 7, 2004.

On October 15, 2004, when he was just 5 weeks old, he was taken to the emergency room for what the doctor’s called “severe bleeding of the brain.”  Basically, that just meant that Austin had suffered a stroke.  How in the world can a 5 week old suffer a stroke?  The reason for the stroke was because Austin was not given a Vitamin K shot by the doctors when he was born at home.  This resulted in Austin’s blood not having the ability to coagulate, causing the stroke. The stroke left massive brain damage to more than 50% of Austin’s brain.

Today Austin is severely developmentally delayed.  His parents continue to search the world for help in healing their baby boy.
